Detection of Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) IgM among healthcare workers in some selected hospitals in Rivers State, Nigeria

چکیده
Several diseases are associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and they can be life-threatening, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Moreover, there no well-established EBV prevention control strategies Nigeria. Therefore, this study was carried out to assess the prevalence of (EBNA) IgM antibody among Public Health Workers Port-Harcourt, A cross-sectional survey adopted randomly analyze 94 public healthcare workers (HCWs) working a health centre Rivers State, Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) used EBNA antibodies samples obtained. Chi-Square analysis determine association infection socio-demographic factors. Overall, 3 patients were seropositive for IgM, constituting 3.1% sample while 91 (97.8%) observed seronegative antibody. Reactivity Epstein–Barr did not differ significantly as regards sex distribution, but it significant marital status professional cadre care facility. Sera positivity highest age group >40 (9.5%) followed by 18-29 (5%), single (4%), married (3.2%), male (9.5%), female (1.3%). This confirms presence primary an onward risk infectious mononucleosis. finding, therefore, alerts us establishment surveillance programs detection, treatment Port-Harcourt Nigeria at large.

Study of Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen (EBNA-1) variations: V-val type preferentially exists in biopsies of nasopharyngeal carcinoma from Vietnamese patients
Background: Epstein-barr virus nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1) plays a crucial role in Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), the most common cancer of head and neck cancer in Asian countries with high incidents. Sequence variations are of high frequency within the functionally important domains of EBNA-1, which have been classified into five subtypes: Phenotype (P)-ala, P-thr, V-val, V-leu and V-pro and ar...
متن کاملAn Epstein-Barr virus-specific cytotoxic T cell epitope in EBV nuclear antigen 3 (EBNA 3)
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-specific CTL clones were isolated that recognized A-type EBV transformants but not B-type transformants. These A-type-specific CTL clones (HLA B8 restricted) were used to screen peptides derived from the EBV nuclear antigens (EBNAs) 2, 3, 4, and 6 as potential CTL epitopes. Of the 76 peptides screened, one sequence from EBNA 3 (residues 329-353) was recognized by A-type...
متن کاملThe Epstein-Barr virus-encoded nuclear antigen EBNA-5 accumulates in PML-containing bodies.
EBNA-5 is one of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded nuclear proteins required for immortalization of human B lymphocytes. In the nuclei of EBV-transformed lymphoblastoid cell lines EBNA-5 is preferentially targetted to distinct nuclear foci. Previously we have shown (W.Q. Jiang, L. Szekely, V. Wendel-Hansen, N. Ringertz, G. Klein, and A. Rosen, Exp. Cell Res. 197:314-318, 1991) that the same ...
متن کاملAntibody responses to Epstein-Barr virus-determined nuclear antigen (EBNA)-1 and EBNA-2 in acute and chronic Epstein-Barr virus infection.
Five distinct Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-determined nuclear antigens (EBNA-1 to EBNA-5) were recently identified. Antibody responses to these antigens could conceivably differ, and thus prove of serodiagnostic value, in EBV-associated disease processes. As a first step, murine or human cell lines transfected with appropriate EBV DNA fragments and stably expressing either EBNA-1 or EBNA-2 were use...
متن کاملRegulation of transcription by the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen EBNA 2.
The EBNA 2 (Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 2) transcription factor is essential for B-cell transformation by the cancer-associated EBV (Epstein-Barr virus) and for the continuous proliferation of infected cells. EBNA 2 activates transcription from the viral Cp (C promoter) during infection to generate the 120 kb transcript that encodes all nuclear antigens required for immortalization by EBV. EBN...
